Heretic Priest Cutie Gets His Own Talk Show

Fox has given Fr. Alberto Cutie a spot for a new talk show. Now Cutie will be able to spread his heresy to millions of viewers on television. As you probably know, Cutie, an ordained Catholic priest decided it was more important to break his vows that he made to God and His Church rather than do as he promised. He ran off with a women and apostatized from the Church and then joined the heretical Protestant Episcopal group, while still claiming to be a priest as if nothing has happened. It seems that he thinks that he can just jump ship over to a dysfunctional, deficient group outside the Church with no consequences. Now Cutie is living in sin with a women with whom he now has children with. While I can certainly sympathize with his struggles in this area of attraction to women, I cannot sympathize with his decision to leave the Church over it, and consequently drag others along with him by his public statements made against the Church. I guess that is par for the course these days. When the going gets tough you go and join a Protestant group. You don't have to worry about sin and all that kind of stuff when you join their club! He is now also promoting his book where he tries to justify his horrific actions against God and His Church. Of course he has thousands of his supporters. Watch the video below to see what kind of damage this guy is capable of. He tries to come off as being sympathetic to the Church, yet he is undermining it at every turn.Notice how his attacks are geared towards the Church's teachings on contraception, homosexuality and the like. What tangled webs we weave!

More Nonsense from Cardinal George. (Lets do Yoga!)

It seems that Fr. Pflager is not the only problem (Watch some of the videos at Pflager's Church) that Cardinal George has not handled. His cathedral is now promoting and offering Yoga classes by certified Yoga instructors who are well versed in interfaith prayer and meditation. Here is some of what they are advertising, none of which has anything to do with the Catholic faith. Do some research on Yoga, especially the vinyasa Yoga, which originates from Indian gurus. Its all bad news.

Ali Niederkorn is a devoted Catholic and a practicing yogi. She has cultivated a daily home practice making yoga a part of her regular prayer.  In the Catholic community she offers faith-based yoga classes encouraging yoga practice as a form of prayer and meditation. She takes her background in teaching and design of learning communities to her faith development and yoga classes. In the past she has organized yoga and prayer programs at  churches in Chicago and in the broader metro area.  She blends inspirational readings, inter-faith meditation, teaching of theory, breathing exercises and yoga postures in each session.

Dina Wolf is a certified yoga instructor who teaches vinyasa flow yoga.  She began her yoga practice 12 years ago when she ventured into a San Francisco yoga studio.  From that moment, her curiosity kept her coming back to classes.  A year later, she met her husband and lived the Bay Area life where they both took Hatha yoga classes. 

Catholic "Christian" Doctrine vs Protestant "Manmade" Doctrine

The venomous ex-Catholic John Bugay is up to his shenanigans over at Beggars All again, misrepresenting the Catholic faith like he always does. He has conjured up a ridiculous chart this time where he tries to say that Protestantism has Jesus at its core, while Catholicism does not. Well, if you really want to understand the difference between the two, below are my two visual examples. Quite frankly the Catholic believes in Jesus, and everything Jesus said and did because He is God! Likewise, when Jesus told us to listen to those whom He sent, we listen to Him because He is God! On the other end of the spectrum we have the old Protestant doctrine of the "believe in yourself, believe me" faith. That is, you believe in your own ability to think for yourself and determine what you think Jesus taught, and then you insist that everyone believe you. Why? Well its because you are so awesome and so full of Biblical knowledge that everyone should just naturally bow down to you. It doesn't matter that you weren't sent by Jesus, you just proclaim it, and everyone should believe you.

Bishop Calls for a New Syllabus

As you may have viewed on Real Catholic TV, Bishop Athanasius Schneider has been outspoken lately about the need to correct errors in the Church today. Among many proposals he has called for a new Syllabus of Errors to be composed by the Pope to refute errors being spread in the Church. The bishop is quoted as saying,

"Keeping in mind the now decades-long experience of interpretations that are doctrinally and pastorally mistaken and contrary to the bimillennial continuity of the doctrine and prayer of the faith, there thus arises the necessity and urgency of a specific and authoritative intervention of the pontifical magisterium for an authentic interpretation of the conciliar texts, with supplementation and doctrinal clarifications; a sort of "Syllabus" of the errors in the interpretation of Vatican Council II.

There is the need for a new Syllabus, this time directed not so much against the errors coming from outside of the Church, but against the errors circulated within the Church by supporters of the thesis of discontinuity and rupture, with its doctrinal, liturgical, and pastoral application.
Such a Syllabus should consist of two parts: the part that points out the errors, and the positive part with proposals for clarification, completion, and doctrinal clarification."

A Lesson on Authority From Tertullian: Not Scripture Alone

Whereas all doctrine must be prejudged as false which savours of contrariety to the truth of the churches and apostles of Christ and God. It remains, then, that we demonstrate whether this doctrine of ours, of which we have now given the rule, has its origin in the tradition of the apostles, and whether all other doctrines do not ipso facto proceed from falsehood.

As you probably know, there are millions of people out there who quote Scripture as being their only authority and rule of faith. This is the primary heresy of Protestantism and the character of this heresy is division. Hence the hundreds of major splits in their doctrinal beliefs. There are many methods they use to justify their heresy which include not only misinterpreting Scripture passages, but also misinterpreting and taking the Church Fathers and early Church writers out of context. The "Reformed" flavor of Protestantism are famous for doing this. John Calvin did it, and his followers now like James White and his henchmen like Turretin Fan do the same today. They will go and look for any reference to Scriptural authority they can find in an early Church writing and then claim they believed in Scripture alone. For example, look at this blog post put up by the "Reformed" apologist who calls himself Turretin Fan. He cuts and pastes a few lines from some Church Fathers out of context, gives his own commentary on them on why he thinks it aligns them with his belief in the sufficiency of the Scriptures. I will look at just one early Church writer that he uses, Tertullian, to show you how malicious these people are in their efforts to deceive people into following their heresies.

Mark Shea (The Magisterium of One Attacks Again.)

It seems that Mark Shea has gone on another one of his nonsensical rampages against me again. He made a complete fool out himself over at Tom Wood's blog claiming he knew nothing about economics, yet he runs off at the keyboard about the subject all of the time as if he was some authority on the subject. When I and another commenter pointed this out in the combox, he apparently felt he had to seek vengeance on me for it, so he again attacked my character by essentially calling me a dissenting Catholic in his latest article on Inside Catholic. As he has done before, he has falsely accused me of being for "maximum death", which I have never called for. In fact, the only point I have argued for is that the death penalty should not be completely abolished, because there are cases where the State deems it necessary to keep the moral order. This is something that is tied into the natural law. I wrote two articles on my blog pertaining to this issue, and nothing I have said goes against the official teaching of the Church. The Church has always said that there are certain instances where Capital Punishment is permissible. According to Mark Shea however, anyone who is not actively seeking its complete abolition at this time is not a good Catholic. Take a look at Mark Shea's latest post on Inside Catholic. The article is ridiculous and it is quite easy to point out some his gross errors and false accusations. What amazes me is that anyone in their right mind would invite and actually pay to have this guy to talk at their parish. That being said, lets look at some of the brilliant comments Shea has written.

Shea in his article repeatedly puts words in my mouth lumping me in as someone who is for maximum death. This is a nothing but a lie and a complete fabrication. Mark Shea however pulls this kind of trash talking all of the time. Shea links my blog article on his new post and then sums me up in his "bottom line." "Bottom line: For the dedicated death penalty maximalist, if you aren't in favor of maximum death for the maximum number of criminals, you are a Bad Catholic." Where I have ever said that we need to apply maximum death to a maximum number of criminals and anyone does not is a bad Catholic? I'll give you a hint, I never have. Read my two articles here and here. Shea has no clue as to what he is talking about. This is nothing but Shea throwing a fit.

Shea has read a few lines from the Catechism about the death penalty and now he thinks he is an expert on the subject. It seems to me he does not even understand the basics of morality or even the primary purpose of punishment in general. The two articles linked above, and on my sidebar, are what I have formally written on the matter, aside from some brief commenting on some blogs, and as I said, nothing I have written goes against formal Church teaching. If were Shea I would be worried about writing things like, "It does not follow from this that all morality should be legislated. I don't want a law making sure everybody honors the Sabbath. I don't think homosexual activity should be criminalized." That was Mark Shea's brilliant opinion on Catholic morality concerning laws on homosexuality. In Shea's opinion it should be legalized! No problem for Shea. I wonder if Shea has read the Vatican document that looks down upon governments legalizing it? I guess not. You can read all about Shea's opinion on it here. It seems that he contradicts himself at every turn. He quotes the Catechism on the death penalty and then condemns anyone whom he thinks does not adhere to it as if it is infallible on this subject in two paragraphs, then he contradicts another Church document on homosexuality where the Vatican says its not good for laws on homosexuality to be changed that allow it. Which side he going to stay on? For Shea, the "One man Magisterium" it is of no matter. If you don't agree with him, look out, he's gong to get ya! Read some of his articles, especially the one by him saying that homosexuality should not be outlawed. Then you can get a feel for how bankrupt this guy is when it comes to teaching Catholicism, let alone making a living off of it. This is truly a travesty, and shows the poor state of Catholic apologetics today. He really has no clue as to what he is talking about and is about as shallow as they come. He is a true cut and paste kind of guy when it comes to apologetics. If I were him I would stay away from commenting on subjects like Capital Punishment, economics, or any moral theology in general. It is way out of his league. I also do not appreciate being misrepresented like he has done here again on Capital Punishment. Buyer beware.

Coming soon to your Catholic parish near you will be a new English translation of the Novus Ordo Liturgy. There is a fierce war going on over this new translation between those who think it will add orthodoxy to the liturgy, and those who like it just the way it is. But it is my personal opinion that neither outcome will satisfy the deficiency of the Mass in its present form. By deficient, let me clarify before I get attacked for saying such a thing. I do not mean deficient in the sense of validity, or even “orthodoxy”, but in the Liturgy’s ability to give the best we have to God in proper form in all of its components, including prayer composition and gesture. I must also make it clear that what the Church did in the Second Vatican Council, which was to develop a new Liturgy, it absolutely has the right and authority to do. The keys that were given to St. Peter afford the Pope and the Church to make changes in an effort to communicate the faith to the world, and I believe it did so with all of the legitimate authority given to it under heaven by Our Lord Jesus Christ Himself. In these changes we are guaranteed a valid Liturgy, and we do have that. We are however not guaranteed that the changes will be the most effective or even the best solution for the faithful. We know that the many of the Sacraments have undergone structural, not doctrinal, changes over the centuries. Men and women stood before the entire church to confess their sins once upon a time, and this had to be changed. So, the Church moves on through time trying its best to live and communicate the Catholic faith as best she can, yet never losing the essential truths of the faith. That being said, I believe that the liturgical change made at Vatican II did not improve the Mass, and so I believe that the Church will at some point move back to what came before the liturgical changes.

    The first and most important object of the Mass is to give proper worship that is due to almighty God. The Catechism of the Council of Trent tells us of the importance of right worship on the Sabbath, for in doing so, “they will be disposed to observe, with their whole heart, the law of the Lord. Hence the sanctification and observance of the Sabbath is very often commanded in Scripture,.. The worship of God and the practice of religion, which it comprises, have the natural law for their basis. Nature prompts us to give some time to the worship of God.” That means that the Mass, or what is commonly called the Divine Liturgy in the Eastern Catholic Church, is not an invention of man, because at its core it is divinely instituted. That does not mean that every prayer, every action of the priest or even every component of the Liturgy is a direct command from Our Lord, but still, at its very core it is such an action commanded by Our Lord. “Do this in remembrance of me.” Do what? Of course, remembrance means much more than painting a mental nostalgic picture in the back of our heads in imagining what Our Lord said. It is operative in nature and contains an active component to it directly linking Our Lord’s words and actions to the Liturgy. The Church does what Christ did, in the Liturgy we take bread, give thanks, bless and break it, say the words of institution, give it to to others and likewise with the chalice. The Church has taken this divine command, with the Eucharistic Sacrifice at its core and has developed prayers and rubrics from Scripture and Tradition, and has composed many liturgies over the centuries which magnify and glorify this core of the Eucharistic Sacrifice. This is how she carries out Christ’s divine command, the command to do “this in remembrance of me.” In other words, the Church has in the past tried as best she could in every time and place to give proper honor and place to the Divine Liturgy in all of its components, including action and prayer. We see this in all of the ancient liturgies both East and West. It is in the Liturgy where the Catholic faith should be seen at its most solemn and yet glorious fashion. Nothing in its composition should distract or take away from giving to God what is due to Him. St. Thomas Aquinas went so far as to hold up the Mass alongside that of Scripture and Tradition. As we know, the Church, Scripture, Tradition and Liturgy were all tightly wound together in the mind of St. Thomas, and none of them could stand alone from one another in his mind, and we should also have this same mindset.

Secondly, the element of sacrifice is to be regarded to be of the utmost importance to the Liturgy, since we will step into Our Lord’s passion, death, and resurrection in the Mass. In the Summa Theologica Saint Thomas opens his treatment of the Rite of the Mass by focusing on its sacrificial aspect. (III, Q83) All of the Church Fathers likewise emphasized the sacrificial element of the Mass. Ignatius of Antioch wrote in 110AD, "Make certain, therefore, that you all observe one common Eucharist; for there is but one Body of our Lord Jesus Christ, and but one cup of union with his Blood, and one single altar of sacrifice (Letter to the Philadelphians 4) It is in these two areas that I think that the Novus Ordo is deficient. It is deficient in communicating these two realities in its prayer structure and in its rubrical structure. In my opinion, it is not the best we have to offer to God in action or in prayer in order to give what is due to Him in worship, nor does it offer an image that best emphasizes the sacrificial nature of the Mass. In contrast, its predecessor, the Classical Latin Rite, or what is now known as the Extraordinary Form, does indeed communicate these realities.

    Since the first and most important aspect of the Liturgy is to give what is due to God in worship, and secondly to call to mind Our Lord’s sacrifice in the Mass, then it stands to reason that a Liturgy which is structured to give attention to these elements would be objectively superior than one that focuses on these elements in a lessor manner by focusing on ourselves, our community, or our personal likes and dislikes. If we can prove this difference of focus by comparing the two liturgies in their actions, prayers and gestures, then this criticism would not be subjective, or my opinion, it would be an objective reality. In other words, I am not going to criticize the Novus Ordo liturgy based on my personal likes and dislikes for Latin, Gregorian Chant, or my personal taste for antiquity, etc. It will be based first on which liturgical structure gives more glory to God, which offers the proper worship that is due to Him, and finally that which brings to the Catholic mind and heart, the sacrifice of Our Lord in the Mass. I will examine each Liturgy’s ability to communicate these Catholic realities. It is my point here to propose that the Classical Latin Rite Mass, also commonly called the Tridentine Mass, is superior to the Novus Ordo in this fashion. It is also my opinion that a new translation is not going to change this fact. It is only going to prolong the inevitable, which will be the complete scrapping of the Novus Ordo Liturgy.

    It has been said that Msgr Ranjith has made reference to the Novus Ordo giving way to the Classical Latin Rite (Extraordinary Form) over the next 20 years, and I wholeheartedly agree. Many clergy in the Church also share the same opinion. Once one examines all of the components of the Novus Ordo, and assesses the repairs, the adds, or the changes that need to be made to improve it, we will essentially end up with the Latin Mass. In fact, trying a “Reform of the Reform” will only prolong the inevitable. Once the Church realizes that trying to reform the Novus Ordo will only lead to ridiculous quarreling over translations and other proposed changes, the easiest and most effective way to restore the Liturgy will be to revert back to the old. I believe that as the Church battles its way through time, the Novus Ordo will only be small blip on the radar of liturgical history. One to be examined by future liturgical scholars as to how and why complete liturgical overhauls are doomed to failure. All of the ancient liturgies grew out of the core Eucharistic worship given to us by the apostles, and they were only gradually improved over the years. The Novus Ordo is unique in that it was a new liturgical structure composed by “liturgical experts” who thought they could fashion a liturgy similar to that of the ancient Church. Unfortunately they composed only a figment of their imagination, since they were not there in the first centuries of the Church. In the upcoming posts I will examine both liturgies and explain why I believe that the Classical Latin Mass is superior to the Novus Ordo, and why I believe it is in the interest of Catholics world wide to support the Latin Mass in an effort to replace the Novus Ordo. My opinions will not be shared by many, and they are sure to stir up some controversy. That is of little matter to me. The next part of this series will focus on the prayers at the foot of the altar, which have been sadly gutted from the Novus Ordo, and why this removal matters.
