Luther, Calvin, Hitler, Stalin and Mao.

And fear not them that kill the body, and cannot kill the soul: but rather fear him that can destroy both soul and body in hell. (Matthew 10:28)

We often think of atrocities in matters of flesh and bone but seldom ponder the destruction of souls. We often think of the horrible atrocities of Hitler, Stalin and Mao, and are rightly horrified by their actions. What about the millions of souls lost because of the arch-heretics Luther and Calvin? If we could compare the numbers of the murdered by Hitler, Stalin and Mao, compared to the murdered and tortured souls served up by the devil's servants, Luther and Calvin, who would be the most heinous criminals of mankind? One kills the body, and others the soul.

Calvin's Geneva was considered by Eric Hoffer, the athor of "The True Believer" to be the first totalitarian state in modern times.

Turretinfan has decided to comment on this post, and once again in his zeal to try and find fault with what you have written he misses the mark. He focuses on your use of Mt 10:28 and imagines that in his cleverness he can show that you have missused the Biblical text, and that it is God who we should fear and not Luther or Calvin. I corrected him in the comment section of his blog by showing him that you did not suggest in your post that Luther or Calvin sat in judgment of mankind, but that their evil doctrines and heresies have contributed towards the perdition of many who subsequently have rejected the Gospel. Therefore, when it comes to a comparison of those who kill the body with those whose evil doctrines influence the destruction of souls, clearly the latter have produced the greater evil.

I also requested that Turretinfan produce any statement made by you where you suggested that the fear we should have of God's judgment be shown to Luther or Calvin as he stated in his post. Instead of responding to my critique, or correcting his post, he decided to just delete my comments. Is this the fruits of his Calvinist religion? Do all Calvinists believe that any falsehood, misrepresentation, and lie in the service of their false gospel is justified?

This is no surprise. We know how TF handles things when he feels that his man made religion is exposed for what it is. He has no real arguments to bring forth so the best he can do is misrepresent those who oppose his heretical heroes. A natural reaction for those who live a lie.

I have not commented on TF's blog, Swan's blog or that demented Steve Hays' blog for a long time now, and they wonder why. Also, where did Bugay go? Did Swan kick him off his blog after Bugay made complete asses of them all or what? It seems he has teamed up with the like minded mad charlatan, Steve Hays. Two peas in a pod.

I commend you for being able to discern the evil of Stalin, Mao, and Hitler.

Matthew Bellisario said...

Thanks, hopefully you can discern the evil of the founding Protesters.

I'd be interested to know if you have an equally vehemently negative opinion of the Orthodox as you do of Protestants?

I notice, on another point, you are living in a nation founded by Protestants. I suspect you wouldn't have wanted to live in any of the horror regimes founded by Bolsheviks, Mao, or Hitler.

Matthew Bellisario said...

Of course I do not classify the Orthodox in the same class as the Protesters. One is actually still a part of the Church, which has valid sacraments and a valid priesthood. They can actually call themselves a Church, while the Protester cannot. As far as our nation being founded on Protestantism, it is also largely founded on Deism and many Freemason's as well. So what?

More than one serious historian remarked that John Calvin was the founding father of the United States. Calvinist Protestantism is in the marrow of the United States from the founding (which was long in the making before the American Revolution). Again, by the time the Revolution came along Calvinism was in the blood and bone and marrow of the American people and republic. Our exceptional belief and zeal to defend that our basic rights come from God and not man, for instance, is not and could not be inspired by Deism or Freemasonry. As someone once remarked, "What you are speaks so loudly you don't have to tell me."

Matthew Bellisario said...

Well, we see what kind of fruit Calvin brings forth don't we? To say that most of the founding fathers were Calvinists would be a stretch. as I said, many were Deists and Freemasons. But you can have your Calvinist founding if you like. It is not something I would be proud of.

You hold the leftist 'no defect standard' to the United States of America? Even so the U.S. is exceptional by any standard. In this world where we live in a realm of sheep and goats.

I am God's first, American second. With contraception, rampant homosexuality and abortion on demand, our country has little to be proud of in the realm of faith and morals. Again, you can have it,

Your bigotry is simply stultifying.

Contraception, homosexuality, the rise in crime ALL correspond to the rise of Roman Catholicism in this country.

At the time of JFK there were only 33 million Roman Catholics; today that number is something like 66 million. And what has happened in the intervening time? Yep, all of it. God has been removed from the schools, test scores are down, teen pregnancies up, drug use is up, prisons are full, etc. etc. etc.

And what of the predominantly Roman Catholic states? Massachusetts – the leader in gay marriage? California – the leader in sexual abuse of minor children? New York – Wall Street, the mob?

And that is entirely consistent with the history of Italy, Spain, France and Mexico. It took only 200 years of Vatican control to turn what Irenaeus called “the elder sister of Christendom” - France – into an entirely pagan nation. And Mexico, which is nearly 100% Roman Catholic – you can't possibly see any good there.

You should remove the plank from your own eye, first, Holiness.

Dude, sorry you are an idiot. Protestantism is solely responsible for the promotion of contraception, abortion and most other evils permitted over the world today. You sure have a short memory of when the Prots in 1930 started to promote contraception while the Catholic Church stood firm against it. If you remember, it was the Catholics who opposed Roe V Wade, not the Prots. Go away. There is a reason why I do not associate with you morons over at your blogs anymore.

There's never been a time when it wasn't like this. The devil can overrun any country, given enough time. Christians have to go against the current of the world, the devil's children get to take the path of least resistance always.

The Puritans, for instance, were always a small minority existing like an island in a sea of concupiscence. Christians don't need numbers to have influence though. David never needed a numerically superior army to defeat opponents as long as God was with him.

But it's a constant fight. It would help if Catholic politicians were as against things like abortion as their church is? I mean...that's not a cheap shot.

The Bible doesn't say things will get perfect before the end. It says the devil will run riot. (Spoken by an amill.)

Matthew Bellisario said...

So what was your point then about this country being so great founded upon Protestantism. Its not much different than most cultures throughout history. I fail to see the point you were trying to make in the beginning of your posts.

Just because the United States is attacked relentlessly by the forces of darkness doesn't mean it ceases to be exceptional or to have had an exceptional founding. The very reason it is being attacked relentlessly is because of its Christian founding and ongoing exceptionalism in the world based on that founding.

One thing that triggers the real end time is when the devil and his children assert dominion of the entire planet. They didn't get it with 20th century totalitarianism (America and England got in the way, as in leading the way in the fight against that), but they're on the move now with militant Islam and and a hangover mix of insane leftist political movements. They pierced the veil with the 9/11 attacks. I say keep it up, devil. I want God to bring down the hammer. (Though I believe in fighting them to the last day...)
