I started doing movie reviews recently, because frankly there are not many Catholic internet sites or news sources that will give you an honest movie review. I just got home from watching a pretty good movie called Crazy Heart. If you like country music then this you will enjoy this movie. I spent a great deal of time in the past, playing live music in bars and clubs, so I really enjoyed the musical aspect of the movie. The soundtrack is great, and the music written for the movie, and sung by Jeff Bridges is pretty good. There is a great deal of country music sung during the film and the storyline is decent as well. Jeff Bridges plays an aging country music star with an alcohol problem that has destroyed his life. It is good to see a decent drama come out of Hollywood for a change, although they could have left a couple scenes out. There is a caveat that you should be aware of before packing the family up to go see it. The movie is Rated R for language and brief sexuality, and I would recommend that you leave your kids at home. There is some profanity in the movie, though not overbearing by Hollywood standards. There is also one quick skin scene (No total nudity) about an hour or so into the film, and a couple of other implied scenes of the same content. Aside from that, the movie is about as good as it gets from Hollywood these days. If you can tolerate those couple of quick scenes then adults will enjoy the film. I await the day when you don't have to cover your eyes for a scene to watch a Hollywood film.

As a catholic journalist who also does some film reviews, I appreciated your down-to-earth review. It was good to see someone give an overview of both the artistic merits of the film and a warning about some of its unwholesome aspects. Well done.
