Bishop Robert F. Vasa of the the Diocese of Baker, in Oregon has pulled the Catholic status of Oregon's largest hospital, St. Charles Medical Center claiming, "As bishop, I am responsible for attesting to the full Catholicity of the hospitals in my diocese, a responsibility which I take very seriously, and I have reached the conclusion that I can no longer attest to the Catholicity of St. Charles," This is a bold move by the Bishop, and I am glad to see him stick to the Church's teaching and not let these hospitals snub their noses at the Church. The full article says, "Mass will no longer be celebrated in the hospital's chapel and all items considered Catholic will be removed from the hospital and returned to the church." There are many "Catholic" hospitals that play games with the Church and her teachings, using various methods to sidestep the Church's teaching on abortion and contraception. It is my hope that this will be a wake up call for them that this will not be tolerated by the bishops. You can read the entire story on the hospital here. (CNS)
PS. You have to see the Cathedral that he renovated. Very nice job indeed!
